FO Analysis: The Price of Duration.
THE VERDICT
The Data Argued for Lower Yields. The Long Bond Would Not Go.
CONFIRMED · Since August this desk has argued that the tightening in American financial conditions no longer lives where the committee sits. On 18 August it wrote that the pressure had migrated from the policy rate to the curve, through term premium and the auction clock; on 29 September, after the committee had raised rates unanimously and the long bond had gone through the desk's own ceiling anyway, it wrote that the market's inflation forecast had fallen while the price of lending had risen, and that the whole move was real yield. Both claims were published with the levels that would break them: the thirty-year's range, the two-year's test line, the credit tell.

You have read the verdict and the data spine of The Price of Duration. What follows is the desk's full read: the argument, the paths and what would prove them wrong.
✓The verdict in full: the regime named and defined, the week's three answers read together, the shorthand, and the ledger entry logging this note's own delivery.
✓The complete fifteen-row fact box: Monday's par curve and the real-yield decomposition since 10 September, the term premium at a sixteen-year high, the fed funds strip, the 1 October buyback and the four before it, the auctions, who holds the ink, credit, equities, the dollar, the margin.
✓The eleven-row scorecard, misses first: the retirement scored at full weight, the broken range, the decision test, the five June credit bands, the delivery lapses and the corrections, then the August queue claim, the fired tell, the two-year's held line, the decomposition and the founding dollar call.
✓The reweight itself: 55, 15 and 30 to 45, 35 and 20, with both fired triggers accounted for in the open and the published return and conversion conditions.
✓The new operating range, 5.30 to 5.80 with 5.45 as the pivot, the unchanged 4.85 falsification and a retirement test for the regime's name itself.
✓The queue at the door: the full 2026 buyback ledger, the two twenty-year bonds the issuer bought at a quarter to a third below par, and the control group in Tuesday's front-end operation.
✓The crack under the repricing: credit through the tell and back to the line, the signature that has not printed, the strip's later-not-away pricing and equities that have not read credit.
✓Cross-asset in full: the clean refining margin through Monday's settle, the December Brent path, the dollar's new peaks with France and Spain beside them, the valve and the witness.
✓The Regime Dashboard: ten cross-asset signals colour-coded RED / AMBER / GREEN.
✓The FO Tactical View, eleven assets across the three paths including the majors, and the six-instrument Cross-Asset Breakdown with the dollar book mapped to the majors, the record euro short and the positioning caveat.
✓The Trader's Checklist: Thursday's reopening and buyback forty minutes apart, Wednesday's minutes and maximum, the credit prints, the two-year against 4.65, the enlarged door's November date and Friday's positioning read.
✓How the Desk Expresses It, the plain-language glossary and the desk's closing view.
✓Confirmed / Observed / FO Inference / FO Risk Scenario labels throughout, and the desk-formatted Premium PDF for print and offline reading.
